Winding down and gearing up.
There are only days left before the school year is over. On one hand it feels like we need to hurry to get everything in before they leave. And on the other hand, it's time to plan for those fun, end of the year events, that celebrate the completion to another successful year. (Yes, I have another Ball Party to plan before schools out --- hopefully two but more on that next week.) Dinosaurs have wound up for the year...bitter sweet for me because it's one of my favorite units. I ... VIEW POST
Diggin’ Some Dinos, Freebies, A Sale Just for You and What’s in My Cart!
I haven't blogged in so long. Ok, only a week, but it seems like a year and that is just way to long for me. I promise I have tons to share with you and I'm hoping to get a few extra posts out this week, but, if you are anything like me, this time of year is crazy. I did get a few hours this weekend to get ... VIEW POST
Stomping Out Subtraction and A Differentiated Freebie That Meets Common Core
A while back when I first started this blog, I put out a freebie and instructions on how to make a floor-sized 100's chart/numberline. It's a great resource and I'm not sure how many of you were able to actually make one, but I use mine ALL THE TIME. I can't imagine how I could engage my kinesthetic learners more than by using this ONE tool. Yes, it takes up some room, but luckily we are in a school that encourages creative use of space. My students are well ... VIEW POST
What’s in your sand table? . . . diggin’ for nonsense bones and a freebie.
There is nothing better than a sand table . . . unless it's two sand tables. Right now in my class I'm using my normal sand table and a make shift sand table that's actually a short sided plastic storage container that you would slide under a bed but it's the perfect size if you don't have a sandtable readily available in your classroom. Because my students are going crazy over all our dinosaur activities this week, I decided to break out this 'extra' sandtable and make a little ... VIEW POST
Making Sense of Math-Measurement
We are winding down our number sense weekly link-up and this week we are talk about measurement. Marilyn Burns tells us that it's important for students to have many different opportunities to use measurement. Measurement builds number sense by having students make predictions and then allowing them to use measurement to check their prediction. In all seriousness, have you ever met a kid that wasn't intrigued with a ruler, tape measure or scale. It exploration at it's ... VIEW POST
