February Morning Work Stations

Materials Used In Activities

I always encourage teachers to use what they have or use what’s cheap. However, there are always teachers who would like to locate specific items that I may have used in activities. So I created a list below to help. Just click on any highlighted text to see where I secured various items.

1.Box of Chocolate Sight Word Links

  • Editable Sight Word Cards-(Activity #1)
  • Chocolate Letter Cards โ€“Included in this packet
  • Plastic Clips or Clothespins

2. Sweet Sounds CVC Self-Correcting Fun

  • Plastic links or clothespins
  • Heart cards, form hearts with letters written on them or wooden heart beads with letters
  • Self-correcting candy bag cards
  • Response sheet (Included in this set and optional)

3.Lovely Links Numbers and Quantities

  • Plastic links
  • Valentine Themed Number Cards and Quantity Cards printed on cardstock and laminated for durability (Included in this set)
  • Sensory bin with thematic items.  Plastic pink and read table scatter hearts from the Dollar Tree or Amazon.

4.Sprinkles and Sweets Sand Tray Sight Words Trays

  • Editable Cupidโ€™s Arrow Sight Word Cards (available in this set)
  • Small cake pan or cookie sheet
  • Thematic Winter Pencil or heart straws (I found plastic heart straws at Walmart)
  • Salt with Valentine Themed sprinkles

5.Sweet Playdoh Counting Math Mats

  • Laminated number mats printed on cardstock for durability
  • Dough for making number and pieces of โ€˜chocolateโ€™ or candy to fill Sweet Hearts โ€˜box.โ€™

6.Sweet Playdoh Ten Frame

  • Laminated number mats
  • Dough for making a number (and representing a quantity in a ten frame)
  • Optional: manipulatives for showing the quantity

7. Sweet Playdoh How Many More To Make Ten

  • Dough Laminated number mats on cardstock for durability
  • Dough
  • Dry erase markers
  • Mr. Clean Magic Erasers for erasing (optional)
  • Manipulatives (Optional if you wish to use something other than dough: pompoms, buttons or seasonal manipulatives.)

8.Playdoh Cupcake Decorating and Box of Sweets

  • Playdoh or homemade dough in various colors
  • Plastic dough extruders
  • Child size scissors

  • Various colors of dough
  • Valentine item cards laminated for durability

10.Valentineโ€™s Q-tip Painting

  • Q-tip picture sheets printed on white paper.
  • Q-tips
  • Washable tempera paint

11.Sweet Sort (Therapy Putty)

  • Therapy putty
  • Purple, Pink, Red and White-colored heart-shaped pony beads or buttons. (I found heart-shaped buttons last year at Target, but you can find the colors in a multicolor packet of heart-shaped pony beads like the ones I found on Amazon HERE.)
  • Valentineโ€™s Sweet Sorting Mat (included in this set)

12.Sweet Hearts Sorting and Graphing

  • Therapy putty
  • Purple, Pink, Red and White-colored heart-shaped pony beads or buttons

13. Sweet Sort, Find, Sort, Graph, and Count

  • Therapy putty

14. Race To Collect Your Valentines

  • 1 dice (use different types of dice to differentiate this activity)
  • Heart Manipulatives (You can use pompoms, flat marbles, buttons or erasers to represent your playing pieces. I used Heart Shaped Scatter from Dollar Tree)
  • 2 Tongs
  • Empty candy boxes or thematic buckets or heart-shaped pie tins.

15. Fill Your Heart

  • Fill Your Heart self-correcting cards printed on cardstock, laminated, and secured with a clothespins.
  • Fill Your Heart playing mat printed on cardstock and laminated for durability. (One for each student. You could also use an empty miniature chocolate candy heart box.)
  • Tongs
  • Conversation Hearts (or you could use pompoms or flat glass marbles with hearts painted on them, buttons or beads)

16.One More Heart-Plus One More

  • Self-correcting cards printed on cardstock, laminated and secured with a clothespin.
  • Playing mat printed on cardstock and laminated for durability. (One for each student or you could use an empty miniature chocolate heart box.)
  • Tongs
  • Conversation Hearts (or you could use pompoms or flat glass marbles with hearts painted on them)
  • Dry erase marker

17. We Love Having A Ball with Greater and Less Than – Grab, Spin and Win

  • Mini Ping pong balls decorated with hearts and with numbers written on them with a Sharpie
  • Tongs or Chopsticks
  • Spinner card
  • (cd case and transparent spinner โ€“ optional)

18.Valentineโ€™s Less And More

  • Self-correcting cards printed on cardstock, laminated and secured with a clothespin.
  • Playing mat printed on cardstock and laminated for durability. (One for each student.)
  • Tongs
  • Flat acrylic red and pink hearts (or you could use pompoms or flat glass marbles) that I found at Dollar Tree
  • Dry erase marker

19.Sweet Sticker Count

  • Sticker recording sheet printed on paper. One for each child. (There are two to choose from.)
  • One sheet allows students to trace and total up all the stickers used.
  • One sheet allows you to place a specific sticker next to a box. Students use those three types to outline the template and then count up the individual stickers of each type and record the number next to the sticker in the box.
  • Small thematic stickers or any small stickers you can find.  If you are interested in the colored heart stickers, I found those HERE, last year or you could just use small colored circle stickers too.

20.Lovely Addition

  • Heart paper punches (or you could use little Valentine’s Stampers too. Walmart has some cute ones.)
  • Glue sticks
  • Lovely Heart Addition booklet (included in this packet)
  • There are equations from 0-5 and others from 5-10. Select and print off the pages you wish to include, staple and cut in half.

Please note, if you can not find heart paper punches, students can also use stickers or heart stamps instead.

21.Valentines Gel Bead Sort

  • Gel beads in same colors as cookie cutters
  • Thematic cookie cutters (snowflakes, mittens, snowmen)
  • Light Table (optional)

22.Valentine Gel Bead Roll and Win

  • Gel beads in same colors as cookie cutters
  • Thematic cookie cutters (snowflakes, mittens, snowmen)

  • Dice (differentiated)

25.Valentine Cut and Thread Straws

  • Yarn with taped ends for easier threading
  • Valentine (pink, white, red, purple) colored straws
  • Scissors

26. Sweet Friends Constructing Letters and Words

  • Valentineโ€™s Day transparent table scatter or white, red or pink flat marbles.  (I found mine at the Dollar Tree)
  • Sweet Friends Sight Word Cards (Or letters)
  • Light Table (optional)

27.Pink Heart Containers Count and Record

  • Small Dollar Tree containers with Pink Hearts painted on top (Or the heart-shaped containers that are available at the Dollar Tree this time of year also work great.)
  • Paint pens to make a heart (if necessary)
  • Small thematic erasers, buttons, beads, or pompoms
  • Recording mat printed on cardstock and laminated

28.Purple Heart Containers Adding Up

  • Small-dollar store containers
  • Paint Pens or Sharpie to make hearts if necessary
  • Small heart-shaped pink and purple buttons, beads, erasers or heart painted on flat marbles.
  • Recording sheet printed on cardstock and laminated.

29.Mending Hearts Lowercase/Capital Matching Puzzles

  • Small sensory bin with fun thematic filler
  • Capital/Lowercase Letter puzzles printed on one color of cardstock, laminated and cut apart.

30. Mending Hearts Letter Sounds Matching Puzzles

  • Small sensory bin with fun thematic filler
  • Lowercase/Beginning Letter Sounds puzzles printed on one color of cardstock, laminated and cut apart.

32.Valentine  Conversation Heart Patterns Self-correcting

  • Sweetheart brand Conversation Hearts(You could use flat black or white marbles with heart shapes painted on them in orange, yellow, pink, purple and green.
  • Playing mat printed on cardstock and laminated
  • Self-correcting cards printed on cardstock, laminated and folded to hide the answer.
  • Clothespins (fun thematic foamy or item hot glued to clothespin optional)
  • Tongs or tweezers for moving items

33.Sweet Letter Match Up

  • Flat pink or red-colored hearts or flat white marbles with hearts painted on them programmed with letters of your choice
  • One editable playing mat per student at a station with your selected letters (Included in this set.)
  • Tongs
  • Sensory bin with seasonal items (optional)

35.Key to My Heart Math

  • Small sensory box
  • Thematic items including poly beads, plastic hearts or acrylic jewels in pink, red, and purple. Heart-shaped buttons and/or beads.
  • Fun thematic tongs or chopsticks
  • Several differently keyed lock and key sets. I buy mine individually from discount and dollar stores. Do not buy a โ€˜lotโ€™ of keys as they will be keyed all the same way.ย  You can also ask parents to donate any old, unused locks and keys.ย  Itโ€™s a great way to assure they arenโ€™t all keyed the same way.
  • Key fobs/tags with labeling capability.

36.Heart Collector

  • Small Basket with holes on the sides (I found these heart-shaped ones at Walmart.)
  • Yarn or pipe cleaners to make a web.
  • Small white ping pong balls or white flat marbles
  • Paint hearts on one side and letters (or words) on the other.
  • On one paint two hearts
  • On one paint a broken heart
