Make sure you check out the preview sample pages for this No-Fuss, No-Muss Math I-Spy Pack for Kindergarten and First Grade. This packet it so easy to use. Just choose an I-Spy mat and select a differentiated response sheet that meets the readiness level for your students. This I-spy is an easy solution for teachers who need to print and go without the hassle of printing to color or laminating. There are no color copies to worry about, no laminating, a ton of choices from which to choose and, on top of all that, it’s differentiated.

Teachers: For each skill, you will find two I-Spy mats (this will allow you to extend your practice and keep the fun going). Within each skill you will find several response sheets from which to choose. Use any one with either Mat 1 or Mat 2. Students use magnifying glasses to ‘spy’ the numbers and then complete the response sheet that you provide. If you prefer to have your students use dry erase markers for this activity, simply laminate the response sheet or slip it into a dry erase pocket. I encourage my students to mark the I-spy mat when they find a number so they know which ones they have already recorded.

This packet is aligned to Kindergarten and 1st Grade Common Core Standards:

K.CC.A.2: Count forward from a given number.
K.CC.A.3: Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral.
K.CC.B.4c: Understand that each successive number name refers to a quantity that is one larger.
K.OA.A 4: For any number from 1 to 9, find the number that makes 10.
K.OA.A.5 Fluently add and subtract within 5.
K.NBT.A.1: Compose and decompose numbers from 11 to 19 into tens, ones and some further ones.
First Grade Standards:
1.OA.B.4 Understand subtraction as an unknown-addend problem.
I.OA.C.5: Relate counting to addition and subtraction.
I.OA.C.6: Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten; decomposing a number leading to a ten; using the relationship between addition and subtraction; and creating equivalent but easier or known sums.
I.NBT.B.2: Understand that the two digits of a two-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones. Understand the following as special cases:
I.NBT.B.2.A 10 can be thought of as a bundle of ten ones — called a “ten.”
I.NBT.B.2.B: The numbers from 11 to 19 are composed of a ten and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine ones.
I.NBT.B.2.C: The numbers 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 refer to one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine tens.
