Please enjoy these editable Heart Word Cards. As a teacher who is in the classroom every day, I realized that some of you may find these useful. If you want to see how I map sight words and use these heart word cards in my classroom, please check out my blog post HERE. You can use these cards for a variety of purposes. I like to keep them in my focus word pocket chart during the week I introduce the word. I also have an extra set that I use at my teacher’s table for when I work with students. We use them to compare and sort words, but you can use them however you wish.
These cards are editable, because I understand that not everyone introduces phonics skills and words at the same time as I do. As an example, in my class digraphs like ‘th’ are not introduced until later in the year so on many of my cards, you will see that ‘th’ is coded in pink with a heart above it. So, although my students will learn the ‘th’ digraph rule, they do not learn it at the time I introduce the word ‘the.’ So, knowing that ‘th’ says /th/ in the word ‘the’ is something they have to remember ‘by heart.’ Later in the year, after they have learned about digraphs, words with the ’th’ digraph will not have a heart or be coded in pink.
So, because this item was created in Powerpoint, the original download may have some crazy-looking fonts. You can go in and change the font, color, and add lines or hearts to the words as you need. Just click on the word and change it. Or click on the heart or lines and move them around or delete them.
