Description

This Activity Is Aligned To Common Core State Standards:

K.CC.5: count to answer ‘how many?’ questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1-20, count out that many objects.

This number recognition I-Spy activity is aligned to common core standards and is differentiated to address the various readiness levels in your classroom. Students will use magnifying glasses to ‘spy’ numbers hidden in the pictures. When they find the number, they will write it on the recording sheet and represent the number in the tens frames. There is a tier for numbers 1-10. There is second tier for numbers 1-15. Finally the third tier has 15 numbers from 1-20 to find.

Teachers: There are two different options for recording sheets for this activity. If you prefer to use black/white copies for your students to use with pencil, that is available. In my classroom, I laminate all the colored copies and provide dry erase markers for my students to use for recording their answers. Either option is available for you here. If you enjoy this activity, please check out all the other differentiated activities and I-spy units available in my store or differentiated ideas on my blog.

Hey, I’m Marsha

Welcome to my blog!

With nearly 20 years of experience as a full-time kindergarten teacher, I’m committed to creating a classroom where learning is joyful, engaging, challenging, and fun. Each day, I work to ensure that my students feel successful through instruction that considers their unique interests, learning profiles, and readiness levels. I believe that students should be excited to come to class and enjoy a myriad of hands-on activities that encourage exploration and discovery.

While I continue to teach full-time, I find so much joy in connecting and building friendships with teachers worldwide. It’s why I started this blog back in 2012. My hope has become a reality as I have been able to forge relationships with teachers, sharing ideas and building friendships beyond my little neck of the woods through professional development sessions and this blog.

So by all means, take some time to look around and explore A Differentiated Kindergarten. Gather some new ideas, fun tips, and most importantly, don’t forget to reach out and say, ‘Hi!’
