This is a differentiated CVC-CCVC/CVCC-CVCe/CCVCe Write the Room Activity. Teachers laminate entire packet. Cut out only the sea creatures and place them around the room to be ‘captured.’ Students search your room for their sea creatures, look at the picture and record their answer. While this activity will appeal to your kinesthetic learners, it is also tiered to meet your students at their readiness level. There are 10 creature cards for each tier. If you prefer NOT to mount these cards throughout your room, you could also place the playing cards in a sand bucket or seasonal basket and have students take turns drawing a card. When they draw a card, they look at the picture and fill in the correct word next to the creature number. If the space is already filled, the card goes back in the bucket and play continues with the next student. When one student has filled an answering sheet, the game is over and they are the winner.
