This I Spy Activity Aligns to:
RF.K.3c: Read common high frequency words by sight.
RF.1.3g: Recognize and Read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words.
RF.2.3f: Recognize and read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words.

This is a fun sight word activity tiered so that you can meet your students right at their readiness level.There are 11 different I-Spy pictures which correspond with the first 11 Dolch word lists. Students use magnifying glasses to find the hidden sight words in each picture. When they have found 20 unduplicated words and have recorded them on their recording sheet (there is a colored and black and white version), they read them to a friend or their teacher. As your students’ word recognition changes, so can you adjust the level of sight words they search for in each picture. This is a classroom favorite that I’m sure your students will love.

With nearly 20 years of experience as a full-time kindergarten teacher, I’m committed to creating a classroom where learning is joyful, engaging, challenging, and fun. My hope has become a reality as I have been able to forge relationships with teachers, sharing ideas and building friendships beyond my little neck of the woods through professional development sessions and this blog.
