This game can be played with up to four players, one player for each side of the mat. Choose how you would like your students to play this game and in which combination. There are two playing mats and two sets of cards in this packet. This is so differentiating can be easily accomplished. You can play a). letter sound cards with the letter mat or b)letter cards with the letter sound pictures mat.
Place the stack or cards face down in a centrally visible location. You can either have students take turns turning over the playing cards or have a card turner. When the card is turned over, students will quickly identify the letter (or beginning letter sounds) and look to the mat to locate it’s corresponding initial letter/sound picture (or letter). When students have identified the correct match, they use their finger to mark their answer and say ‘Yatta’ (pronouced ‘yacht-ta’). If they are the first person to find the answer, they ‘win’ the card. The person to identify and collect the most cards is the winner.
