Whew! My head is spinning like a top I tell you! I don't ususally wait so long to post a blog, but I have to tell you . . . . I have been exhausted. Since last Friday when I last posted, I've been scrambling to get ready for my little kinder friends that would be arriving for Kinder Open House on Tuesday!I completed my welcome bulletin board (notice it's a big window and NOT an actually bulletin board-a bit of a challenge but I make it work). It makes it difficult to ... Week in Review . . . Whew! and a little freebie
My day made better!
Don't you hate that very first head cold of they year. You know, kids have been sneezing all over you for 20 days now and finally, you have a full blown cold. UGHHHHHhh. Yep, that was pretty much how I started my day. It literally felt like my head was gonna explode. But of course, I didn't even consider NOT going to school. I plugged away, getting Daily 5(or 6 in my class) rotations going and we were right in the thick of it too, when my teacher neighbor Kerri ... VIEW POST
Peek at My Week and Plans . . . Daily 5 Here We Go!
Well, I made it through the first week of school. In one piece and with my wits still about me. I call that a 'win.' I'm trying to get myself in some kind of routine to post my plans for all of you. Slowly but surely, I'm making my first attempt of the year. It's a bit tough when your class is still in the 'learning procedures and routines' stage and when you start school about three weeks later than everyone, but for what it's worth, here is a peak at my up-coming week. I'm linking up ... VIEW POST
Do You Have Stamina? We Do!
It's never an easy feat when starting out Daily 5 training in a kindergarten classroom. This year we were able to accomplish 15 minutes of 'read to self' and it only took us until the 5th week of school to get it done. Whew! If you're a Daily 5-er, you know that once you make that 'read to self' goal, it means that your kiddos are ready to do it for real during D5 rotations. They know the expectations, they understand the urgency . . . they just 'get it.' And so what do you do when you ... VIEW POST
The Daily 5 Second Edition Book Study: Chapters 1 and 2
So I’ve just finished up my second year of my revised, made-to-fit-for-me version of Daily 5, and, honestly, it just gets better and better. I feel like I’ve made it my own, and my kinder friends have found great success with it. So when the Freebie girls threw around the idea of doing a second ‘The Daily 5’ book study on the new 2ndEdition, I knew that I wanted in. I needed to know what ‘the sisters’ had in store for us now. So if you're interested too, just make sure you stop by ... VIEW POST
Daily 5-2nd Edition Chapter 7: Houston We Have Lift Off . . .and a FREEBIE
You’ve started Read To Self. You’re setting your foundation lessons and your kiddos are building stamina. So now what? We may build our read to self-stamina by practicing a couple of times a day, but since that only takes a small portion of our ELA block, in my kindergarten class, we are practicing and building a foundation in the other Daily 5 components during the rest of the time until our reading stamina goal is met. The first two weeks might look a bit like the ... VIEW POST
