Ok, I've taken the last week or so to dive in and really get a grasp of what my kinders readiness levels look like in terms of literacy and I feel like I have a plan of action. Constant and ongoing assessment will be key, but I know that I can't have my high fliers continue working on just their names and simple letter mastery when they are ready to move on to bigger and better things. I will still work with them on fluency and speed but I have to give them a little more ... VIEW POST
Differentiated Word Work Plan . . . and so it begins.
#Colorizeyourclassroom with Astrobrights, A Freebie and a Giveaway from A Differentiated Kindergarten
Who wants to add color to their classroom without having to break the bank on color printer ink? Just about everyone. Well, Astrobrights Papers recently sent me a sweet packet of their new papers and a gift certificate to Office Depot, and I'm dying to show you what I did with them. When I talk to teachers about providing fun, engaging and interesting materials for their classroom, one of the biggest frustrations I hear is, ”I would love to print everything in color, but I just ... Differentiated Word Work and A Freebie-Kinder Daily 5 Book Study Chapter 6
I'm so excited about this Chapter. I've replayed and adjusted and maneuvered how word work is going to look and function in my classroom. All this thinking and pondering usually happens in the middle of the night when I'm in a dead sleep and wake up to an A-HA moment. Does this happen to anyone but me? Well, I've learned to sleep with a notebook next to my bed and as a result, I think I have a pretty good plan of action.First of all, I like the idea of being an area ... VIEW POST
The Reality of Daily 5 Day One In Kindergarten!
The good the bad and the ugly. That should really be the title of this blog all about the reality of starting Daily 5 in kindergarten, because let's face it, you have to be able to roll with the punches, duck and weave and basically multitask like a madman these first couple of days right? THE PLAN If you caught my last post, it was all about my plan and set up for Daily 5's first days. If you missed it, you might want to check it out first HERE. In any case, the plan and activities are ... VIEW POST
Chapter 4 Reflections and How I Scored Some Books!
I hope you were able to come up with some great ideas of how you plan on making Read To Self work in your kindergarten class. This chapter certainly gave me quite a bit to consider. I sure was glad to have Krissy's guiding questions to help me through it. Before I go there though, I have had many of you ask about acquiring books and making sure you have enough to get started. Teachers never truly ever have enough books do they?Believe me, that was and still is a concern of ... VIEW POST
Visual Plans for Differentiated and Aligned Holiday Math Stations Galore and . . . a heck of a sale to boot.
It’s time to change over my math stations for the holidays. I’ve had so many requests from readers to share my differentiated visual plans that I thought I’d get a post out that included them as soon as I was able. I have to tell you. It’s been slow moving around my house. Everyone is in a post-Thanksgiving turkey food coma (my coma is directly caused from a mashed potato over-load), but I was finally able to get it together. So here is the plan as it looks on paper. If you would ... VIEW POST
