One of the best things about being a teacher blogger is the opportunity to meet and collaborate with teachers all over the country and really the world. Today I get to introduce you to one of my favorite blogging teacher buddies, Kaci, from Mrs. Hoffer’s Spot. She’s smart, she’s funny and she’s a great source for fun and interesting kindergarten ideas. And here’s a little secret . . . she differentiates like a champ! (You know I love that.) I promise, you’ll love. Hello Friends! My name is Kaci from Mrs. Hoffer’s Spot. My dear friend Marsha is allowing me to hangout over here for a bit!
I am just sure you have heard those sweet little voices either holler “Teacher I’m Done!” or them yanking on your shirt and whispering “Now what?!” when they have completed their center activity. It happens no matter how many times I tell them what to do.
I guess I should probably give you some background information on how I run my centers.
I have 4 “tubs” going at a time. Word Study A and B, and Math 1 and 2. The centers are always similar to something that we have already done. Then I have 6 other “literacy stations”.
Where my problem was lying was when they were finished with their tub work.
Enter our “Early Finishers”
When kids are done with their tub they can go over and grab a pouch out of the “Early Finishers” In there they can find a variety of activities to do.
Old Center activities, I Spy’s, games, roll and covers, really the list can go on and on. These are activites that they can already do, easy to assemble, and easily differentiated.
I love to put Marsha’s I Spy’s in there. Here is a link to one of her Freebie I Spys
Here is a link to a free Roll and Cover for St. Pats day. There are three choices to Differentiate (1,2 and 3 dice)
Head over to my blog to download a Sight Word Game Freebie!
Thanks for reading my post 🙂 Now you have a couple of ideas for when your kids are tugging at your shirt saying “Now What?”
I told you she was great didn’t I? Now please, do me a favor and head on over to her blog and make sure you follow her so you never miss out on any of her great ideas and freebies. And leave her a little love by letting her know what you thought of her guest appearance.
With nearly 20 years of experience as a full-time kindergarten teacher, I’m committed to creating a classroom where learning is joyful, engaging, challenging, and fun. Each day, I work to ensure that my students feel successful through instruction that considers their unique interests, learning profiles, and readiness levels. I believe that students should be excited to come to class and enjoy a myriad of hands-on activities that encourage exploration and discovery.
While I continue to teach full-time, I find so much joy in connecting and building friendships with teachers worldwide. It’s why I started this blog back in 2012. My hope has become a reality as I have been able to forge relationships with teachers, sharing ideas and building friendships beyond my little neck of the woods through professional development sessions and this blog.
So by all means, take some time to look around and explore A Differentiated Kindergarten. Gather some new ideas, fun tips, and most importantly, don’t forget to reach out and say, ‘Hi!’
