For all your pumpkin fun, here’s an I-spy that will meet the needs of all your little learners. This unit is differentiated to meet the readiness levels of your various learners. You can be certain to engage all your students without frustrating students still mastering the skill of number recognition 1-10 or boring those students who are ready to be challenged a bit more with numbers 1-20.

In this unit, students use magnifying glasses to find hidden numbers. Because I know how expensive color printing can be for teachers, I have included the option for black and white I-spy mats and response sheets for each item in the packet. For each skill listed below, you get an I-Spy, a colored and black/white response sheet and an “I Can . . .” poster to help make your station more independent.

Number recognition and representation to 20 on ten frames. (Three tiers: 1-10, 1-15 and 1-20)
Showing how many (One Tier: 1-10)
Counting on/what numbers come after (Three Tiers)
What numbers come before (Three Tiers)
What numbers come before and after (Three Tiers)
And as a bonus . . . How many more to make ten. (One Tier: 1-10)

This activity meets Common Core State Standard:
K.CC.A.2 Count forward beginning from a given number within the known sequence
K.CC.A.3 Write numbers from 0-20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects.
K.OA.A.4 For any number from 1 to 9, find the number that makes 10 when added to the given number, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record the answer with a drawing or equation
