Ok, so I'm always on the look out for interesting materials to use in my class as I'm sure all of you are. I know that one strategy I can always use to differentiate is to offer different kinds of materials for students in response to their interest and learning profiles. I knew my kinsethetic learners were gonna flip over these. So when I came across these too cute Easter pinwheels at BIG LOTS a couple of weeks ago, I just knew I had to have them. They were $2.00 each and while ... VIEW POST

Peek at My Week and Plans . . . Daily 5 Here We Go!
Well, I made it through the first week of school. In one piece and with my wits still about me. I call that a 'win.' I'm trying to get myself in some kind of routine to post my plans for all of you. Slowly but surely, I'm making my first attempt of the year. It's a bit tough when your class is still in the 'learning procedures and routines' stage and when you start school about three weeks later than everyone, but for what it's worth, here is a peak at my up-coming week. I'm linking up ... VIEW POST

When you have nine math stations going at one time, it's impossible to be everywhere so independence is a key. I don't know about you, but I'm also not real fond of being interrupted every 5 seconds during Daily 5 either. Of course, classroom management, rules and practiced expectations are the key to keeping stations ... VIEW POST
All In the Family (The Word Family That Is) and a Freebie to Get you Started
I am a true believer in the power of FAMILY...specifically Word Families. In my own classroom, it's an essential part of my Daily 5 Word Work. Word families, or some people call them chunks (families is just so much more friendly sounding to me but to each their own), help readers look for patterns when decoding. When your students recognize those patterns, they can more easily sound out words they don't readily know. It is always amazing to watch when a light suddenly turns on ... VIEW POST
It’s never pretty, but it’s always fun…
I can guarantee you when you come to my blog that it will never be one of those blogs with beautiful pictures . . . just the right lighting and clean, well-dressed children. I’m not saying I wish it could be that way . . . I do! I love those clean, fresh looking blogs. I envy the perfection of those pictures . . . But let’s face it . . . The odds are pretty much against me. So while it’s not always very pretty. . . I will tell you this much . . . it's always fun . . . kind of like ... VIEW POST
