Playing Catch Up With My Daily 5 Plans

It’s late start Monday (when we all get to meet with our grade levels for Professional Learning Communities work) today, so my Daily 6 (my version of Daily 5) stations are pushed back a day this week.   The good news is that it gave me an extra day to collect some pictures to add to my visual plans for the week.

Anyhow. . . here are this week’s plans.  (you can click on them to get a copy if you need them)


 


 We are getting closer and closer to being up to full speed.  This week I’ve started really differentiating those independent stations (you will see I designate my tiers by color which corresponds with my name cards etc.) And I have their ‘extra choices’ laid out as well for those students who may finish early. 




We aren’t ready for ‘Read To Self’ to be fully independent so I still have that ‘station’ as word work for the moment.  We are close though.

Here’s a closer break down of the main activities (just click on any picture where you’d like to get more information):

Monday/Tuesday

Work On Writing:  My kinders are needing some extra practice with their handwriting so I’ll be using my pal, Maria’s (from KinderCraze) handwriting sheets to help them out. 

Listen To Reading:  My students are JUST listening right now.  They have picked up the routines and procedures for the station pretty well.  I will eventually add response sheets.
 
Word Work 1: Sensory Table Syllable Sort:  Students will search the sensory table for syllable cards and then sort them by attaching them with clothes pins to the rope with the corresponding number of syllables.  It’s hands on and kinesthetic . . . After this initial introductory station, I post these cards throughout the room, and they become a write the room activity.  I love it when I can extend an activity (and save on more printing) by using the items in more than one way.
 
 

Read To Self (They aren’t quite there yet so this station actually becomes a word work station of sorts until they are):  Write the Room for Farm Yard Letters and Sounds.


Meet The Teach:  Top Bananas Slap Down . . . I introduce Top Bananas Letter Mastery System this week so this is one of the activities we will be playing to reinforce letter fluency and speed.  Hopefully by next week, my kinders will be ready for me to really start Guided Reading activities at this station.  (Crossing my fingers!)



Word Work 2:  See, Say and Color Letters and Sounds:  I have this activity in my Autumn Harvest Word Work pack and in my Back To School Pack.  Believe it or not, I’m using the one from my Back to School pack because I just haven’t gotten to it yet, and I don’t want it to go to waste!  This one is so easily differentiated.


So then for Wednesday and Thursday, I will again be using Maria’s Writing Pages for Work on Writing.  The Listening To Reading station will have the same books as it has six listening bags, so I won’t need to change the books out for another 2 weeks. And then for Word Work Stations 1, this time their main activity will be Sensory Table Rhyming Fun.  I used these cards as a Memory Game last week to familiarize student with the pictures.  This week they will be searching the table and working with their partner to find the rhyming pairs and pin them together.  (Can you tell I love using my sensory table?)

Again, Read To Self is not quite ready so for this station I will be providing students with a favorite station, Read Write Park.  Students use cars and self-correcting cards to work on letters and beginning (and ending) sounds.  I also have one for CVC words as well (Segment Park Write).
 
 


For Meet The Teach, we will be reviewing letters and sight words, and then I’m going to teach them Autumn Harvest Yatta for letter and sound fluency.  

And finally for Word Work 2: They will be doing either a Bingo Dotter Maze for letters or sight words depending on their level of readiness from my Autumn Harvest Word Work Pack.  (Love those Smelly Bingo Dotters!)  
 
 
And that’s pretty much it.  As the weeks progress, rigor and differentiating will evolve more and more (I hope).  These stations have been going extremely well so far so I can only hope it continues.
