Leprechauns and Bunnys! The Hodgepodge that is March!

My poor kiddos don’t know if they should look for leprechauns or bunnies.  This month is a hodge podge of Spring, St. Patrick’s and Easter all rolled into a quick four weeks.  I think my head is spinning around trying to fit it all in before Spring Break.

My weekend is gonna be CRAZY!!! planning leprechaun mischief at home and school but for now, here’s a peak of some of our activities from the week.

When I first came to my school the PTO was throwing away these carnival chips so I turned them into a real and nonsense leprechaun’s gold word game.  Sometimes I put these in my sensory table but since Easter is so close to St. Pat’s Day this year, I opted to put this in my pot ‘o gold.  My kinders LOVED it.  You had to say the real or nonsense word (I had 3 and 4 lettered words to differentiate) to earn your gold piece but there were some clovers (give a piece of gold back), a couple of pots (steal a piece of gold from a friend) and a rainbow (game over everyone counts their coins) coin in there as well.

I needed an I-spy that could last me several weeks in my Math Stations that wasn’t necessarily just for Easter so I created Crazy Rabbits Love I-Spy Addition and Subtraction. Of course it’s differentiated for those who are just beginning to catch on to addition and all the way up to those mastering subtraction through 10.  Answer sheets have a number line to help students find the answer.
My kinders beg me for write the room activities and I wanted this St. Patrick’s one to be able to challenge my learners who are still trying to master letter sounds but also be appropriate for my students who are easily sounding out blends and reading sentences.  This one includes letter sound, CVC, CCVC/CCVC and CVCe and there is a ‘finish and read the sentence’ option as well.
You know who I love my sensory table.  I needed something bright and springy to liven things up so I put some neon colored pasta in there with onset and rhyme eggs (kinders match up each side of the egg to make real words) and some real and nonsense paper eggs that can be sorted and clipped onto my clothes line.
Kinders also worked at their level on real/nonsense words, CVC, rhyming, CVCC/CCVC and CVCe words with this I-spy activity.

And my new math stations (this is from Math Stations Galore -10 Math Stations in one packet)  including this find and count activity that had different recording sheets.  One student is working on making ten and the other is working on tally marks.  It’s easy to differentiate to meet their readiness if they all have equally engaging activities despite their readiness levels.
So that’s it for now.  I plan on being back with a blog answering all the questions I had sent to me regarding sight word mastery (Ball Words).  And I hope to have that posted this weekend, so stay tuned.
